11 January

The decision to start writing posts on a daily basis when every day is the same may start to pose a problem before long.

Today: I got up, I went to work, I came home.

Tomorrow: I will do the same. Some details may change but the end result will be the same.

Was there ever a time when Sundays weren’t dedicated solely to the apprehension of Mondays?

Melting Point

The whole day is just a countdown to the next one and then the countdown to the weekend begins again. Is Saturday the only day we have to ourselves to rest and relax?

To many people locked down right now every day must be like a Sunday, waiting for a Monday that never comes.

9 January

Saturdays don’t seem to have meaning any more. No more browsing for books, reading then at Starbucks, and whiling away time in town, just an essential shop and perhaps a walk, avoiding all of the other people doing the same.

Foggy Field

I discovered a new route today, only minutes from my back door and more scenic than two laps of the estate, although more than a little muddier. One day I can walk it to the pub…

6 January

No change to training in Tier 5, so I will be getting up at 6 am for at least the next two months. With any luck the trains will get quieter (though they are already deserted) and the streets will empty out even more.

Wednesday Morning, 6am

Once I’ve dragged myself out of bed the whole early morning thing isn’t too bad. That drag is the hard part though…

5 January

The lockdown has unofficially begun and yet if anything there were more people travelling in to London today. Tomorrow I’ll find out if I’m expected to keep travelling in, although if I’m honest I like it (despite the 6am alarm)

Sourdough Hole

Counterpart is almost finished, I can’t help feeling it’s going to be an open ending…

4 January

Today was my first day back on the train to London and I practically had the whole carriage to myself. That was before.

Tomorrow could be a whole new story as new new rules from the government keep more people at home. I could well have the streets to myself as well.

Evening River

No films tonight as the travel makes for a long day, but I’ve continued with Counterpart and what must be one of the best episodes of the series, Twin Cities.

3 January

The last day of the Christmas holidays. I have not achieved much in the way of tidying despite my grand plans. If anything, I seem to be surrounded by more clutter.

Sky High

It’s Documentary Sunday, so my film today was Dosed, a documentary following a young heroin addict in Vancouver as she experiments with mushrooms to kick the habit. Quite eye-opening stuff

2 January

Two walks, one quick trip to the shops. That’s a 100% increase in walking activity day on day so far this year but I don’t imagine I’ll keep that pattern up for long.

I genuinely didn’t know what day it was today until my phone reminded me that it was my nephew’s birthday and the last 14 years of my life had vanished in the haze of the first 14 years of his.

Over The Hedge

Only one film ticked off the Netflix list today, The Midnight Sky, so tomorrow is my last chance to make a proper dent before I’m back in training. I also haven’t picked up a book, virtual or otherwise in weeks and have failed my Goodreads Reading Challenge for the tenth consecutive year. Being back on the train for the next two months may help with 2021 though.
